F-Gas Regulations 2026: What Facilities Managers Need to Know

The phase-down is accelerating. Here's how to keep your AC and refrigeration estate compliant — and avoid being caught short on refrigerant.

The F-Gas regulation is doing what it was always designed to do: squeeze high-GWP refrigerants out of the market. For facilities managers, that creates two practical problems — rising service costs and equipment that may no longer be economical to maintain.

What's changing Quotas on virgin HFCs continue to tighten. R-410A and similar high-GWP refrigerants are getting scarcer and significantly more expensive. Reclaimed refrigerant is increasingly the only viable supply for older systems.

What we recommend 1. Audit your estate — identify any equipment running on R-404A, R-410A or R-407C. 2. Build a phase-out plan that aligns with planned capital works. 3. Maintain rigorous leak-test records — both for compliance and to spot equipment heading for failure. 4. Move new installs to lower-GWP alternatives like R-32 or R-454B where suitable.

How we help Our Refcom-certified engineers run the F-Gas log books, leak testing and certification across your whole estate, and we'll build the strategic phase-out plan alongside your capex programme — so the regulations land softly, not as a surprise.
